Product Description Residential Design Using Revit Architecture 2010 is designed for the architectural student new to Revit Architecture 2010. This text takes a project based approach to learning Revit Architecture in which the student develops a single family residence all the way to photo-realistic renderings like the one on the cover. Each book comes with a DVD containing numerous video presentations of the written material. This book starts with a optional basic introduction to hand sketching techniques and concepts intended to increase your ability to sketch design ideas by hand and to think three-dimensionally. The lessons then begin with an introduction to Revit Architecture 2010. The first four chapters are intended to get the reader familiar with the user interface and many of the common menus and tools. Throughout the rest of the book a residential building is created and the many tools and features of Revit Architecture 2010 are covered in greater detail. Using step-by-step tutorial lessons, the residential project is followed through to create elevations, sections, floor plans, renderings, construction sets, etc. The videos contained on the included DVD make it easy to see the menu selections and will make learning Revit Architecture straightforward and simple. Throughout the book the reader is presented with icons indicating that a video file is available on the DVD for viewing. Each video is a short presentation on that particular subject. | Customer Reviews: Good for Beginners October 12, 2009 Sarita Mae Severo 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Although the book was missing chapter 14, I still found this book to be helpful. Especially with the video tutorials.
A Beginner's Guide July 2, 2010 Rog'e Saint (USA) A product review should be just that, a product review; not slander about shipping or customer service. With that said; I bought the book because I needed to learn Revit and in a hurry. I was a little annoyed with the typographical errors, and there's a lot; however, the errors do not detract from the essence of the book. The companion DVD, which is supplied, is extremely intuitive. It contains chapter files which are clearly labeled for ease of reference. The DVD should be used in conjunction with the book; however, it is so easy to grasp the concepts (illustrations) on the DVD that, should you toss the book you could still survive. The book is easy to read and includes lots of visual outlines (screen shots) as well as tips. Within a few days I was able to design and prepare drawings without reference to the book ( on my own as a matter of speaking).
I believe the book (with DVD) is extremely useful for beginners and can be used as a reference for intermediate. Having completed this book the next progression would be Mastering Revit Architecture 2010 - Greg Demchak (this by the way is not a beginner's guide). I did not rate the book 5* due to the number of typographical errors.
Basic - Very Basic November 17, 2009 D. Tetro (Westchester, NY USA) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased the book - came with Chapter 14 as an insert. Overall, the book was very basic - designed for a classroom environment with an instructor leading the chapters. First chapter was free-hand sketching of photographs, following chapters utilized basic text elements in the drwaings instead of using the smart features of Revit.
I bought the book to learn Revit - found more resources elsewhere that were more helpful. Some may like this as a reference, but as an investment in learning resources, get a more complete book instead...
It could have been good... if it were complete. August 8, 2009 M. damo (Honolulu, HI) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I ordered this book... twice. "Why" you ask? The first time was because I wanted to learn Revit and how to put it into practical applications- like pull a Construction Set off of it... but the whole Chapter 14 was missing. I returned it and got a replacement. The book is in shrink wrap... you can draw your own conclusions. Aw, forget it- I'll just tell you. The whole 14th chapter was missing again! Lame.
